White NASA watchband (Lunar Training)

While never landing on the moon, these substantial off-white NASA watchbands were flown on Apollo missions 7 and 8, and used in preparation for Apollo missions 9 through 12. Their component list was the most extensive, involving many "Space-Age" materials that are no longer available in their original form. To re-create this watchband as accurately as possible, I have used materials with the same look and feel.

First among the materials is the 1 inch wide loop tape, which has the pile made from rows of woven loops just like the original specialty Astro-Velcro®. In addition, the reverse is coated with polyurethane to simulate the originally applied Flourel® elastomer backing.

The closest color match I've found to the NASA archive images of Astro-Velcro® used as a watchband and elsewhere is the ANA Standard 507 (Aircraft cream). 

The white watch keepers are made from glass fiber cloth impregnated and surface coated with PTFE, exactly like the original (but now generically produced) DuPont Armalon® which was also used for the Apollo command module crew couches.

The keepers are spaced to fit an original moonwatch (case 145.012 or equivalent). The strap is not suitable for larger watches, such as the Bulova Lunar Pilot. 

At 19 inches in length, the strap can be worn outside a jacket or wrapped around the wrist. Before wrapping around the wrist, thread the end through the outside of the D-ring inwards, so the loop pile is continuously exposed. The end hook tape is long enough to span both sides of the D-ring.

Care and maintenance: Can be machine washed warm. Iron any wrinkles in the polyurethane backing by drying thoroughly first and then pressing for 5-10 seconds with a non steam iron over a cotton cloth at a temperature for synthetics (setting: WARM ●● 150C/300F).
